Show stopper!!!!!!

“A man is a social animal” well if this saying goes to be true, then communication would be one of the most important factor to prevent a life of solitude. Everybody has a right to express their feelings and thoughts without stinting. The understanding between a parent and a child is one of the most important parts of the bond which they share; the sad part is that the gap is constantly increasing as you grow older. After being together for years, instead of being attached are you getting detached? (more…)

My Page!!

The advertisement above as made by me; Sakhi Ganeriwala as a student of Mahatma Gandhi International School. As part of our 10 grade assessment process, we were asked to choose a social or environmental issue and formulate its awareness through an ad. We were provided with equipments and any other resources we required from the school and were provided quality help from our moderators and teachers. As everyone chose different topics, I chose food wastage.  In the beginning of my project, I conducted a survey to choose between three issues; food wastage, monuments and air pollution. Being the 2nd most wanted, food wastage fascinated me and I felt it to be a different issue.

As I researched deeper into my chosen topic, I did not want to create an advertisement on simple ‘waste of food’, of how it happens. I found out, people had various reasons or in better words, excuses to wasting food. Therefore, I developed an advertisement displaying the different excuses of food wastage.

I feel today, beggars including children, adults and people of all age groups try and find ways to earn money; try and find excuses for people to lend them money so they can sleep with filled stomachs. On the other hand, people living in proper living standards come up with excuses to wasting food. Amazing contrast, isn’t it?

So many people sleep with an empty stomach along the hope of earning a bit of money the next day. Moreover, people like you and me do not take into consideration this fact. While throwing our food away, we don’t think about those people on the street-those which can be fed and nourished from the food we throw away. These were some of the reasons I chose this particular topic.

Food Wastage attracted me as I thought of it as a major issue, especially in my community with the population bands and the food crisis. To figure out which excuses were popular; I conducted surveys through the society. As you see above, the three popular issues turned out to be- ‘too much food’, ‘not tasteful’ and ‘I don’t like it!’

Though I found these to be extremely lame excuses, it was the real truth; the truth that I wanted to spread through different people and make them aware of such an issue. Through our 2 month project, I collected actors, substituted them, decided sets, costumes and mainly; my target audience. Taking up a social issue, I had to be extremely clear on who I was targeting. Finally, I decided to target the adolescent age group. As I was shooting on my school campus, it gave me a good link. I could link my advertisement on the basis of the school context and student population.

Also, to make my advertisement extremely symbolized, each and every shot and scene in my ad is filmed in the cafeteria of my school. Though this is an unnoticeable fact, I felt this to have extreme symbolizes with my topic and its aura.

REAL AS IT GETS…in Ahmedabad

Till date, Amdavadis have paid Rs 45 lakh in fines for not wearing helmets in just three months and another Rs 27 lakh for not buckling up their seat belts. It seems like it doesn’t bother them to follow the rules even if they have to may so much money in penalty.

According to a survey, last year in 2008, the Ahmedabad citizens paid upto Rs 3.16 crore and this year the amount has already reached upto Rs 77 lakh!Buckle Up!

The traffic police suggests’ Amdavadis like to ride their machines without a care in the world’.

People actually seem to not care about paying so much money, when they can easily follow the traffic rules. Following the traffic rules is NOT going to be heavy on their pocket!

And infact, the law has been established for people to keep safe and also encourage others to keep safe. Still they are not caring about their lives or money.

When it comes to seat belt safety, out of all the people who drive cars, MANY of them haven’t been seen wearing a seat belt. To be precise, in 2008, the no. of people held without a seat belt were 77,173 and the money recovered from them was about Rs 77, 10,000. This year from January 1 till March 31, the police have caught 27,691 people already who were not wearing the seat belt.

The deputy commissioner of police (traffic) MM Anarwala says’ whenever I stand at a traffic point I find 7 out of 10 without helmet. A large number of people drive cars without fastening their seat belt without realizing that in the unfortunate event of an accident, they will suffer less if they drive as prescribed’

And it is so true! Everybody knows! It’s not like they don’t know!

But they don’t care…

It is not only the case of Ahmedabad; this is just a city update.

It is a case all over the country in many places and even outside India.

So WEARING A SEAT BELT AND FOLLOWING THE TRAFFIC OR DRIVING RULES IS ONLY GOING TO KEEP YOU AND YOUR MONEY SAFE!

Mid Day Meals Promotional Ad

I will shortly we uploading an ad I made for the Indian Government as a part of my technology project to promote Mid Day Meals. The purpose of this ad is to spread awareness through media to those who are unaware of this scheme. The  ad was directed, shot and edited by me with guidance from my technology teachers.

I shot at a school called                located approximately 20 kms from Ahmedabad, a large city in the state of Gujarat located in western India. It was a beautiful school with large areas of vacant land. Social integration amongst the children was commendable and working with them was an experience all together! They were creative, obedient and clever individuals with great potential and enthusiasm. Both the times I visited their school, I was touched by the atmosphere and drawn to the fact that other children should also be provided with facilities to help them grow into independent human beings.

More technically speaking, this was a vigorous project which required long hours and hard work and responsibility while using the expensive electronic equipment. The video camera I have used to shoot this ad is the Song HDV                     and the editing software I used was imovie ( available on mac computers only) it was a relatively simple software to edit with.

Mid Day Meals…

Significance of the Issue

Millions of children in India sleep unfed every day. Their school career is interrupted because of constant money constraints. Instead of going to school, young children are made to work alongside their parents to gather a decent amount of income to run the house hold for basic necessities such as food and shelter. This disables the child of education which can secure his life in the future.

Children living in the circumstances mentioned above are provided with little or no food and remain illiterate for their entire life. Their parents do not enrol them in school because that would mean spending more money and less income if the child does not work. The parent’s ideology makes sense but it leads to an illiterate nation and abuse of children. The central government of India began the mid day meal scheme to reach across the nation and help eradicate malnutrition and class room hunger. Free meals were also used as an incentive to convince more rural parents to send their children to school. Other prime reasons included gender equality, enhancement of cultural diversity between the peer group and extermination of descriminaition between castes.

On September 28th 2001, a law was passed by the Supreme Court of India, to ensure the incorporation of each Indian state with regard to the mid day meals scheme.

Within 6 months, all state governments were asked to provide children attending government schools with a mid day meal free of all costs to the child.

MID DAY MEAL SCHEME (MDMS) [1]

(i) It is the case of the Union of India that there has been full compliance with regard to the Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDMS). However, if any of the States gives a specific instance of non-compliance, the Union of India will do the needful within the framework of the Scheme.
(ii) We direct the State Governments/ Union Territories to implement the Mid-Day Meal Scheme by providing every child in every Government and Government assisted Primary Schools with a prepared mid day meal with a minimum content of 300 calories and 8-12 grams of protein each day of school for a minimum of 200 days. Those Governments providing dry rations instead of cooked meals must within three months start providing cooked meals in all Govt. and Govt. aided Primary Schools in all half the Districts of the State ( in order of poverty ) and must within a further period of three months extend the provision of cooked meals to the remaining parts of the State.
(iii) We direct the Union of India and the FCI to ensure provision of fair average quality grain for the Scheme on time. The States/ Union Territories and the FCI are directed to do joint inspection of food grains. If the food grain is found, on joint inspection, not to be of fair average quality, it will be replaced by the FCI prior to lifting.

However, despite the government efforts, many states refused to follow the orders. There still remains fistful of states which have not complied or lack participation till date.

Though the mid day meal scheme has not achieved complete national participation, the midday meal programme covers 11.97 crores of school children across India. These children study between classes I to VII and are a part of the 12.79 lakh schools which provide mid day meals.

[2]The government entitles each child 1 fresh, hot mid day meal every working school day. Government schools are supplied with food grains by the central govern ment, free of all costs. Children studying in classes I-V (primary classes) must receive 100 gm food grain, 20 gm pulses and 50 gm vegetables each day. Children studying in classes VI –VIII (upper primary) must receive150 gm food grain, 30gm pulses and 75 gm vegetables each day. The cooking expenses are provided by the central government to each state/union territory. For primary classes, Rs. 1.58 is spent per student per day. Similarly, Rs. 2.10 is spent per student per day studying in upper primary classes. However, the North eastern states receive Rs.1.89 and Rs 2.42 respectively per child, per day.

BUCKLE UP!!

Everyone needs to BUCKLE UP!

Everyone needs to BUCKLE UP!

“Who cares?” this is the general attitude of people all over the world towards things that have a potential of making a big hole in their lives and destroying them for a lifetime. for instance, I take an example of traffic or driving rules. How many of you out there actually follow them? As a matter of fact very few actually do and most of them don’t even realize when they don’t follow the rules because in reality they don’t care!

When things like campaigns, ads or certain reminders from peers try to make a man, who doesn’t follow traffic rules, to realize that he should do that- and in any case it is only going to help him- he couldn’t care less. There are many people with such a mentality that they don’t want to listen either because they think these things don’t matter and they wont have any importance or also in many cases they might think ‘it’s not cool’. This is something that one would here only from a teenager. To think that to follow the rules is not cool, please don’t think this AT ALL that to NOT follow the rules would be cool. Because then you might end up in a very ‘uncool’ state after all.

kids, teenagers...all need to

kids, teenagers...all need to

There have been many cases and many many situations where a majority of teenagers have lost their lives in car accidents just because of their carelessness and their attitude towards ‘rules’. There are certain rules in life one should follow at least just to decrease the risk of ending up dead.

Not wearing a belt could be hazardous in both ways: either you get a ticket or you get a ticket to hell!-or heaven-wherever you might end up!!

The truth is it is high time and we all should take care and responsibility of our actions.

Every time you sit in the car, whether you’re at the driver’s seat or at the passenger’s seat or back seat or even at the top!-take care that you wear a seatbelt and if you see someone without it, just kindly ask them to wear it. It is also an adult’s responsibility to check whether a child below the age o 14 is wearing a seatbelt or not.

Especially teenage individuals who don’t wear seatbelts, please you have to know and you have to be aware that buckling up can help. It really can decrease the risk of early death!

This is not a myth or something that could never happen to just anyone. Infact, it can happen to anyone. If you face an accident, unless something doesn’t come crashing through your windows or your wind shield and if something doesn’t smash right over your car, it is quite possible that if you’re wearing a seatbelt, you might survive with the most minor injuries. The easiest injury would just be a shock!

So, my only message here is that next time please wear a seatbelt…it’s for safety.

Next time you sit in the car, hear the clicks as many number of times as much the people are in the car! if you click it you won’t get the ticket!

so,

BUCKLE UP FOR SAFETY!!

buckle upp

LET IT RING WHILE YOU DRIVE

Let It Ring While You Drive

As part of the ‘technology cycle 1’ of MYP year 5 moderations, we made commercial on social issues. We worked through many stages of the technology cycle, beginning with investigate till create and then evaluated the process. The video in this article is a product of the whole process. I chose to work on the issue of cell phone driving because I feel that like underage driving; using cell phone while driving is also an undesired attempt to suicide. A study by Professor David Strayer states that “If you put a 20-year-old driver behind the wheel with a cell phone, their reaction times are the same as a 70-year-old driver who is not using a cell phone.” I looked at a variety of alternatives to avoid the use of cell phone while driving. But finally I concluded that not picking up the cell phone while it is ringing is the best alternative as using hands-free does not reduce the risk of accident.  This is proved by a statistical report of the NHTSA which says that the number 1 source of driver inattention is use of a wireless device. The story of the commercial is based on the perspective of a man. It shows a comparison between the the view of a builiding while driving without and while talking on phone while driving. The tilted view of the man is exaggerated to create the desired impact and to make the avertisemet humorous. Traffic rules are made by a country’s traffic department to assure the safety of the citizens. And so I believe that obeying to traffic rules is a moral duty of every citizen.

Is the commercial clearly communicating its call for action?

Teen traffic

We have recently noticed many fatal incidents related to underage driving. This matter has become very serious now as many lives lie at risk while adolescents ride around the town. Even after many terrible accident caused due to underage driving, very few action towards it has been taken. There is a need for a change on our roads now. The fine has dropped from 1,106rs in 2006, to 586rs in 2007 and now 289rs in 2008 (may). The low traffic fine and lenient traffic rules another reason why young drivers drive freely on the streets. It is only recently that the maximum fine has been raised to 1000rs. Parents also don’t pay attention to what their children do and some also encourage them to drive. They need to think twice before handing over the key to their children.

Teen drivers between the ages of 16 to 19 have 5 times more the chances of getting into an accident than any older person would. Due to less experience teens are more likely to underestimate hazardous situations. Compared to older drivers, teens are most likely to be the ones speeding, running red light and making illegal turns, and driving after the consumption of alcohol or drugs. Young drivers riding with other teen passengers have more chances of crashing, as more the passengers, more the chances of casualties. The traffic control has come to a conclusion that majority of the accidents by underage drivers are caused on Friday and Saturday nights between 9pm to 6 am. About 30% of the crashes witnessed in Gujarat involved speeding and alcohol even though Gujarat is a dry state.

Parents and teenagers need to be made aware of the dangers of driving. Underage driving should be avoided. 1400 adolescents died due to underage driving in India in 1999 and the numbers keep growing drastically, year by year.

Euphemism

Drive for Safety

Driving while talking on the cell phone has become a very common habit among people of all age groups. This results into many road accidents taking the lives of many people. This happens due to lack of attention because the drivers are distracted by the conversation. Even the use of bluetooth devices does not help the drivers in concentrating. They are only looking but not really seeing. Many studies have shown that use of cell phones while driving increases the risks of accidents among all age groups. To combat this, traffic rules have been formed that ban the use of mobile phones while driving. However, many people continue to disregard this rule.

The advertisement here aptly shows that a moment of carelessness can result in dangerous accidents. Using a toy car, it tries to put across this point very succinctly. It reminds us that it is very important to have complete focus on the road while driving. This is essential not only for the driver’s safety but also for the safety of other drivers and pedestrians.

It's a JOB

The above picture illustrates abundance of poverty, prostitution, and dependence on a tourism based economy.

ANOTHER SHIFT

‘Child labor’ is a human right issued and referred to the employment of a child. This practice is considered exploitative and is illegal in several countries. Child labor was employed to unreliable extents through most of the history, but in later times it became a serious matter of public dispute with changes in working conditions during industrialization with the coming out of the concepts of the workers’ and children rights. Thus it is not socially pleasing but is legally restricted in the majority of the world. (more…)

concern of child labor

The multiple concern of child labor is a growing and it is an issue worth studying. The belief that children are being exploited and forced into labor is a big worry. They are not getting education to develop.

India is a major example of a nation plagued by the problem of child labor . What are the causes of child labor in India? What role does education play in regard to child labor in India? A serious investigation of the answers to the above questions may lead to a few solutions.

Influence On Your Child

parent_child6

As you grow, you change your attitude yout way of walking, your way of talking and of course your actions. By actions, it can be anything your way of eating your way of sitting or your way of walking. Any action you do changes as your age changes, when you are young you see your mother and father doing some actions if you are 5 year old you wont understand their action, but if you are 8 or 9 then you can understand the actions they do. When get some actions, which you never use to do first you dont realize but later when some other people find those changes, you start realising that those actions were nver yours. And then you know that you were influenced by some people and so you have those actions. Some of the actions are dangerous and harmful, and some helpful and good to do, and this can happen to anyone, you wont realize when you get those actions but you have them. And it can get influenced by younger kids faster than the older ones, because they have inccocent mind and if they see their brother or their parents doing some actions, they can do it too. As they think that if they are doing that action then its good, then if you are “hiting someone” or “helping an old man to cross the road.”

Smokers being highly affected in performance a sport activity

“The reality is that smokers are simply less fit. They have less endurance, flexibility and lower performance levels. They are highly unlikely to succeed in their chosen sport if they continue to smoke”. Studies have shown that athletes who smoke are more likely to discontinue active sports. Smoking decreases oxygen to your lungs causing you to puff more, increases heart rate to fatigue, increases the time taken for your heart rate to go back to normal which fronts to increase recovery times, slows your reaction speeds, effects your visual judgment, decreases oxygen to the muscles. In comparison to the above shows that the benefits of being a smoke free athlete are enormous. In short, the result of heavy smoking is sport reduced performance.

So, QUIT SMOKING and live a healthy life!!!

I think that…

Keeping in mind one of the major issues ‘Global Warming’, I think that it is important to address people about the vast production of Green house gases by the pollution emitted from the vehicles. People don’t recognize the changes happening in temperature everyday, but if you observe the data of last ten years I’m sure that you will understand something. Each and every one of us has contributed in increasing the amount of Green House Gas produced every year, but we don’t realize it. Bursting fireworks, driving cars with petrol as a fuel, smoking, Factories and many more are the major subjects giving in the most. Last year in 2008 Indians lived out a day with 50 degree temperature, the highest ever in India, many people suffered with various diseases, why? Global Warming. We need to do something really quickly or the day is not far when the last human specie is fading out. One thing we need to do is to stop the growing hole of the Ozone layer, because if we don’t stop the expansion of Ozone layer than soon ice peaks would just be a history and no ice means temperature increasing speed is doubled. We should understand the significance of pollution affecting the atmosphere. Just picking up the pace on when the signals go green and showing off your full speed affects atmosphere & you yourself also.

Earth: Help me!! Can’t Take More of it!!!

People commonly know about Carbon Monoxide (CO) emission from the transportation’s. Briefly we can say that Carbon monoxide is released when incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons is occurred, resulting unburned hydrocarbons with carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxides and water. Hence when the hydrocarbons are combusted in a four-stroke engine some hydrocarbons do not get sufficient amount of oxygen in the engine and therefore the lacking oxygen molecules react with carbon forming carbon monoxide. These gases harm the emvirenment badly and can cause a fatal death to the humans. It would be necessary for the people reading this article that by using our brains we can launch out a new dimension of this world. This can be by any common person, all you have to do is to use CNG and LPG gases as a fuel in your vehicles. Helping the environment as well as yourself.

Why is education Important

There are many kids in the world suffering because of lack of education and so I would like to introduce this topic as I see many kids of my age working on tea malls, sweeping in multiplexes when their age if for playing and educating. If kids of today’s generation get educated then they will be able to open big factories and mills, and they will have a good future and we will be able to see a good future for India.

India will grow as a country too as today India comes in under developed countries because if illiteracy, and unhygienic way of living. If illiteracy dies from our country then people will have manners that they will start living their lives in hygienic ways as they will understand the difference in the way of living and like this India will be counted in developed countries and there will be 1 day when we will be in top ten countries. I have a dream of seeing India counted in top ten countries, and I would like to make my dream possible. My dream will be possible only if people start getting educated, and if illiteracy dies from the country. If we make the young ones educate then they have a chance of having a good future. The kids have a chance that they will get a job in good and popular companies as today companies look for highly qualified people. After they do job for some time and they get enough experience they can open their own business. A business man is always a successful man.

But to let all this happen we need to change our selves first and then try to change the world. We need to stop making our child work and send him/ her to school. Mahatma Gandhi used to say “Bring the change you want to see”. So we need to start it from ourselves and then spread it to everyone.
Here is a graph which will show you the education statistics of India
untitled-25

This graph shows the statistics of education in India. It shows how many males and females leave the school because of some or the other reason and when do they leave.
