As we all know, wastage of food is related to individual mindsets. In our society, there are various people who waste food and those who find reason behind this issue and people from each corner of each city and each age waste food through great quantities every day. But, it looks like the residents of India have their own way of looking at it. Through a survey conducted, it looked like people though it was the age-group from 15-25 which wastes the most; basically, the age of adolescents to bachelors.

As the graph states above, approximately 45% of the people wasting food is the adolescents and bachelors. A lot of times, as bachelors live alone at home, they have food sitting in their fridge until it gets rotten and eventually has to be thrown-a possible reason. Not only this, but there are various excuses people come up with today to waste food. Well, t looks like we have answers for it as well. Through the survey conducted, there were common quotes that people heard every day related on food wastage.

It looks like the major excuse for wasting food is the old line ‘I am to full’. An approximate of 91% out of the people surveyed claimed that this was the excuse they frequently heard. But, food wastage is not an issue that can be taken lights. In today’s world, food is known to be a basic necessity and it looks as if supply has to be boosted. Looking at the way food is consumed and wasted today, there will be a 30% increase in food supply by the year 2020. To narrow it down, I reflect on my country; India.

Each region of India wastes a tremendous amount of food which results in the loss of 580 billion rupees every year. This is an amount through which thousands and be fed, nourished and taken care of. Because of the population rise in India every year, residents should be extra careful on how much food they waste. It is a simple factor that must be kept in mind; take how much ever you wish to eat. Through different ideas and strategies, this issue must be taken care of.
But, the impact of food wastage is not only financial and social based. Instead, it has effects in the environment as well. Talking along the lines of environment, food waste leads to the wasteful use of chemicals, herbicides, pesticides etc. From this, more fuel consumption takes place, releasing high amount of carbon and methane in the air-two of the most dangerous gases. This way, food waste not only can lead to social health problems, but has effects on the environment.
We as responsible citizens should pledge to violate this issue as life will become easier for us, our children and their future. So please, think about it!
