All rules and regulations are made for a cause. Traffic rules, moreover, are meant for the safety of the public which nowadays freely violates them. In many Indian cities, like Ahmedabad, people freely skip red lights. Traffic lights are there so that all intersections can run freely, without jams or accidents. Yet most people go around abdicating their responsibility towards these rules. Even when a traffic official is there to regulate, people jump red lights. Traffic Enforcement in Ahmedabad – True figures !
The number of vehicles in Ahmadabad have been increasing at a rate of 6% every year. That is a total of 1,20,000 vehicles are added to the vehicle population of the city every year. In comparison, the road length is increasing at a average rate of only 0.7%. This is causing a situation where more and more vehicles are getting packed into nearly the same space, causing increasing traffic congestions. (more…)
How Many Are Too Many???
Traffic law violation is a very broad subject. The traffic police try their best in Ahmedabad, but a lot of the responsibility is also of the people. We too are equally responsible for our safety as well as others. The main priority of the traffic department presently is child safety. Under this section, the violations that are being thoroughly monitored presently are overloaded school auto-rickshaws / vans and under-age driving.
School auto-rickshaws have a tendency to pack in many more kids than the law permits them to. Only 6 kids are allowed per rickshaw by the law. When this limit is crossed, children end up hanging out, from the sides of rickshaws; this is very dangerous for them. Some of them may just fall out and injure themselves very badly. (more…)
