All rules and regulations are made for a cause. Traffic rules, moreover, are meant for the safety of the public which nowadays freely violates them. In many Indian cities, like Ahmedabad, people freely skip red lights. Traffic lights are there so that all intersections can run freely, without jams or accidents. Yet most people go around abdicating their responsibility towards these rules. Even when a traffic official is there to regulate, people jump red lights. Most crossroads situated in the core of the city are jammed in rush hours. Some stay jammed throughout the day.
Through my ad, I’d like to tell people that red lights are meant to be respected with or without the presence of an official. And road courtesy is a must. People should wait for the ones in front of them to pass before rushing into the road themselves and causing a jam, blocking off all traffic, and causing unnecessary delay even to themselves.
Traffic police cannot monitor every single traffic signal to make sure citizens obey the laws. Civilians must recognize their responsibility towards making the roads safer and more serviceable. If we want safety in traffic for ourselves or our loved ones, let us contribute by vowing to respect the traffic lights tricolour on the roads, even when no one is watching.
